These tips may seem too obvious, but facing a chaotic and messy closet can be a very daunting task. Here are five simple steps to simplify the exercise of creating more space in your closet.
1. Order and donate
Review your clothes one by one and remove all those that are stained, torn or discolored. Donate clothes that are in good condition to the local church or an NGO.
2. Think of the seasons
We know that there are garments that are very seasonal, but be honest with yourself: if you haven't worn something during the past 12 months, you've already covered all four seasons, so get rid of it! It is unlikely that you suddenly stop using it again.
3. If it doesn't work, remove it from the closet
This tip applies especially if you haven't cleaned your closet for some time. Whether it doesn't fit you or doesn't work anymore, give it to someone who can use it.
4. Stop looking for the perfect match
You know what we are talking about: that garment that you are waiting to wear as soon as you find something with which it combines. When you buy, think the other way around: look for clothes or accessories that complement the clothes you already have in your closet, instead of buying something and then having to find another new garment to complement the first purchase. You will save space and money!
5. Choose a number
If you can't get anything, decide a number. Be brave and choose 10. Check your closet and choose the 10 items that you are going to put a bag to donate or recycle. You will be surprised how easy it is to use this method. You could even choose 15 or 20 in the next round!
